If you take away one thing, please let it be this:
Be kind and respectful to other members
Don't harass them, don't hurt their feelings, don't steal their work, waste their time, complain about their choice of games or insult their favourite chair. They probably won't appreciate it. In order to be a good member, please consider this too:
Would another member like to read your post?
Before you go off on a rant about why Mario's cap should be orange or say 'I don't like this model', ask yourself, 'would someone like to read it?' Everyone's very busy in this modern day and age so maybe the colour of Mario's cap doesn't matter that much and maybe you could explain to the designer what you don't like about their model.
One more thing before we get to the serious stuff, we're an English speaking forum with members from all around the world. Please try to speak good English if you can and remember that the person you're talking to might be from the other side of the world and have no idea who the Red Sox are. Remember too not to share any sensitive information about yourself, you never can be sure who's reading.
With that, let's get down to the rules!
- No flaming - constructive criticism is welcome but hateful comments aren't. Instead of writing 'this model s***', get concrete and respectful, for example: 'It's pretty good, but shouldn't [this part] be more [like that]?'
No spam - this includes unreasonably short replies as well as off-topic posting. 'It looks good' is hardly a worthwhile post, you can say more than that! What do you like about the model? Do you want to build it? Does it bring back memories? No need to be shy!
No double posting - let someone else post after you unless it's been a few days (yes, we mean days, not just 30 minutes!). If you need to add something, edit your previous post. However, designers are allowed to make extra posts in their own threads if they have significant progress to show.
No necroposting - if a topic has seen no action for 6 months, start a new one rather than dredging up the ghosts of the past. Designers kicking their old topics are allowed if they have something new. Question and answer threads, such as advice threads, and news threads may be allowed but if in doubt, ask a staff member.
No minimodding - the moderators are ready and capable to enforce great justice so use the report button and leave them to their jobs.
Don't harass other members - posts and PM should have a point and worthwhile content.
- Use proper English - swearwords and profane terms are forbidden. With asterisks, please censor at least the whole vulgar word except the first and last letters. By example, 'tomato' becomes 't****o'.
No advertising - you may include a URL to your website in a relevant post or your signature but you may not start a topic for your website
Give credit where credit is due - if you've shared a model that's not yours, give credit to its creator.
Use spoiler tags - unless it occurs in the first hour of the game/whatever, it's a spoiler and needs to go in a spoiler tag, even if you think it's obvious. You can create a spoiler like this:
Code: Select all
You know, in Zelda games...
... the main character is in fact Link?
- No linking to ROMs or malware - ROMs are illegal and malware are things like computer viruses. I'm sure you can find either with a quick search on Google so leave us out of it!
No porn or nudity - anyone who posts vulgar content will receive an immediate formal warning. Suggestive and saucy images will be tolerated as long as they are posted as a link, are relevant and aren't explicit.
No requests - do not make a request of a designer unless they've explicitly opened themselves to requests. They're busy enough as it is!
No masquerade - use only one account on the forums, although we'll probably make an exception if you have trouble logging in.
Any attempts to resist or avoid the moderators will not be tolerated.
The moderators will contact you if we catch you breaking the rules. We're fairly generous but don't push your luck, lest ye suffer the almighty banhammer!
Good luck and enjoy posting!
